Barefoot Lawyers training in Tirunelveli
Two barefoot lawyers’ trainings for dalit activists were organized and the trained rural dalit youth in Tirunelveli and Thoothukudi districts were equipped with legal weapons on the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, Right To Information Act 2005 and constitutional rights. Creative interpretation of the legal provisions and meaningful application of these legislations in handling cases of atrocities have been the real impact of our trainings. The resource persons, during the training programmes, have explained to the participants creatively so as to make use of the legal provisions in a meaningful way that might suit to the particular cases in the local context. Advocates Bhagat Singh, I.Robert Chandrakumar from the Madurai High Court Bench and Mr. Athisayakumar for m Tuticorin handled classes on the SC/ST (POA) Act 1989 and the SC/ST (POA) Rules 1995. Mr.M.A.Britto, Director, Vaan Muhil facilitated the sessions.
